Jenny Robinson

Mixed Media Artist

Pattern, layers and a more than a hint of wall covering nostalgia feature heavily in my paintings. I like to study a subject and exploit its decorative qualities.

Living in St Albans, Hertfordshire, I began painting the surrounding rural area around six years ago. During a short carreer break, I rediscovered my passion for making art and haven't stopped since. I use acrylics and inks, encompassing paper collage in most of my pieces. This allows me to work in layers and over the years I have enjoyed experimenting and formulating successful methods and ways to express my creative ideas.

With a background in textile (knit) design, I subconsciously look for the layering of pattern and texture in any subject. The tangle of nature lends itself to this approach and botanical imagery often features in my work.

When beginning a new piece of work I like to give myself a kind of 'brief' as a guide. I'll decide on the colour pallete, composition and overall desired effect. Within these constraints I will invariably discover happy accidents along the way and just go with the flow. I like the contrast between reality and the abstract, following the rules and breaking them, decorative surface pattern - but not in repeat.

Thank you for taking a look. If you’re interested in any of the work here or would like to commission a piece, then please get in touch.
